Hi all, Another Thrifted Thursday here. I have been working on cutting down on my thrifting excursions. I just donated 4 trash bags worth of clothing and other items - eeep! It sure feels good though to clear up some space around here. I also am in the process of setting up an ebay account to sell some items that need new homes :] With that being said let's move on to the goods, shall we?
This little Buddha makes me so happy. How could you not smile while looking at his sweet grin and round belly? He is a sign of joy and wealth - two very wonderful things. I picked him up about a year ago for under $2 :]
Oh, you know...just an original Vincent van Gogh...reprint. Haha. So nothing too special other than the fact that I love his sunflowers. I like that it was printed on canvas instead of poster paper and that it brightens up just about any room. I thrifted this piece before starting college. An oldie but a goodie.
I thrifted this guy Sunday afternoon seeing as he was half off. It depicts - Yeibichai, the Night Chant - which is a ceremony held once the snakes are asleep in order to cure patients of nervousness and insanity. If performed improperly the singer or patient may lose their hearing, sight, cause facial paralysis, or crippling of the legs or arms - bummer. I only know this because the of the story attached to the back, haha. I personally thought it added to its charm.
My friends and I are headed out on the town tonight. Pretty darn excited. Anywho, have you thrifted anything spectacular lately? I would love to hear about it.

Wardrobe Wednesday - Houndstooth
Hi all! How is your week goin? I can't believe it is already Wednesday - phew. I have been applying to jobs like a mad woman. Please hire me people! Applying for jobs online is so difficult, with an endless sea of applicants, how do you stand out? Wah, wah. I am hopeful though. It will happen. I am just hoping sooner than later.
Oh yeah, I cut myself some bangs yesterday. I think they are a fun change. I need to get an actual hair cut - sorry to all my hair stylist friends. I know, it's bad. Anywho... I am just in the mood to ramble today it seems. I just feel like I have so many little things to chit-chat about. I also started working on my health and fitness. I downloaded the MyFitnessPal app (alliemc123) and bike an hour each day. Anyone else using this app? It is awesome because it allows you to be mindful of what you are eating and chart your progress for exercise :]
Outfit Details: Dress - Dorothy Perkins | Cameo & bag - thrifted | Wedges - Target | aaaand sweetpea.
This dress is a lot of fun to wear - a tad short for me but I am dealing with it. I look forward to styling this dress for the fall with fun tights and cardigans. Four years ago I would have never pictured myself twirling around in dresses, and yet here I am! I have done a complete 360 when it comes to my style and I couldn't be happier. Tehehe.
What are you all up to for the rest of the week?

Also - Have you seen my Most Wanted Monday - Tattoos post from earlier today?
Most Wanted Monday - Tattoos
Hi guys! Hope you all had a good and relaxing weekend, mine was just that. I had fun celebrating Brian's birthday with his family and then with friends in Chicago, saw my cousins, had sushi with my dad, and did a bit of gardening. Today is my dads birthday. I baked him a yummy angel food cake with mocha frosting - his personal fave :] I have more job hunting to do today, wahoo. Please send me some good vibes!
For today's Most Wanted Monday I thought it would be fun to show off some tattoos I have fallen in love with recently. My mother specifically told me she couldn't handle if I got another one this weekend, so of course I want another now (see my tattoo here). Just one on my inner arm, or maybe my thigh? Hmmmm. Obviously I don't have enough thought put in to it to get one...just yet.
Floral
1. Poppies - Sang Noir.
2. Orchids - Davie Hale.
3. Bouquet - Josh Cerny, formerly at Steady Tattoo. Now at Live Fast Die Young Tattoos.
Animals
4. Tattoo Commission - Nan Lawson.
5. Fox - Unsure of artist, found on Baked Fish's Photostream.
6. Bird/floral - Unsure of artist, found on Mariah is on Fire's photostream.
Not Katie's from Skunkyboy...but close-ish (?).
Cameo
7. Grandad cameo - Miguel Angel Tattoo.
8. Cameo - Katie's Pencil Box.
Basically - put some flowers, cute animals, and a vintage frame around it and - BAM! I kid, sort of. Looking to get some new ink, or have any recently acquired some? Let me know! I would love to see/hear about it :] Happy Monday y'all!
**If you know the artists of the tattoos above please let me know so that I can fix the links on my pinterest and credit them. I hate when people pin things without the proper links attached.

Wardrobe Wednesday - Take Heart
Hi all! Happy first day of summer!!! It sure feels like it here in Illinois - 90+ degrees says it all. If only the beach were a few miles away. Lake Michigan doesn't cut it - no offense to my fellow Chicago bloggers - that water grosses me out. Anyways... I have been a busy bee searching for a job and cleaning out my closet. My poor blog is starting to feel neglected so I am getting my bum back in to gear. I plan to catch up on all of my lovely comments today and tomorrow and get back in to a normal blogging groove. Having a break was nice, but I missed you all!
Taking outfit photos today was brutal due to the heat - yeah, probably should have worn something more "heat appropriate", buttttt the dress is just too cute. This is another dress I purchased from winning the incredible Ruche giftcard from Icing & Write.
Outfit Details: Dress - Falling In Love Heart Printed Dress, Ruche | Bag - Urban Outfitters (old) | bracelet - Egypt | Oxfords - DollHouse.
Today Brian and I are headed to Kiss the Sky - an awesome record shop to pick up one of his birthday prezzies! I am having him choose a bunch of records and then leave the store so I can buy one, haha. He owns too many records so it is just too hard without him picking them out personally. At least he will sort of be surprised? His birthday is Friday, I hope the others arrive on time... Anywho. Have a beautiful day you all!
Stay cool :]

Blog Design 101 - Bordered Background
Hi all! I haven't done a Blog Design 101 post in quite some time so I figured it was about time I rolled another one out. For todays post I plan to cover how to make a cute bordered background for your blog in Photoshop and how to then apply it to your blogger blog.
(Look we are going for ^. However, please feel free to try out any other border you would like!)
**The steps below to create the background image may be followed by anyone, however, if you are using a blogging site other than blogger you will have to upload your image to an image hosting site and then use a tiled background code in your sites html.**
STEP 1
Open up Photoshop and create a document 1980x300 pixels at a resolution of 72 pixels per inch. I find that an image 1980 pixels wide or larger ensures that it fits on all computer screens. Having the image be 72 pixels per inch also helps keep the file size down and is all you need for online viewing.
STEP 2
Fill the rectangle with whatever colored background you would like. I chose a mint green. Once you have filled the background please make sure that your rulers are set in pixels by selecting - Photoshop > Preferences > Units & Rulers > Pixels > OK.
STEP 3
Next we need to figure out what the width of your blog is. If you do not know please go to your blogger homepage > Template > Customize > Adjust Widths > and view. My tester blog is set at 880 pixels so I want to make sure that whatever my inner background is it is at least that width or larger.
STEP 4
First create a new layer - Layer > New > Layer. In the new layer proceed to create a rectangle (this is the background for your text) larger than your blogs width (in this case my blogs width was 880 pixels ^). I chose to make mine a bit larger by making the inner background 1040 pixels wide. Once you have measured and created the rectangle center the box within the 1980 pixel space.
STEP 5
Once you have the inner background centered it is time to add the fun border. For this tutorial I added a scalloped edge. To do this first be sure to create a new layer. Once you have made a new layer create a circle with the elliptical marquee tool - be sure to hold down the shift key to ensure you create a perfect circle.
STEP 6
Fill in the circle with the color of your inner background. Once finished copy this filled in circle layer.
STEP 7 Once you have copied the circle layer proceed to paste the circle in place - Edit > Paste Special > Paste In Place. Drag the pasted circle below the other to create the scalloped edge. From here copy and paste in place the two circles and drag them to the opposite side of the inner background. Crop the image to the sides of the circles, or enlarge the circles to fit the space as shown below.
STEP 8
We are in the home stretch! Save this file as a .jpg.
STEP 9
Now head back to the to the template page of your blog and re-enter the customize section. From there select Background > Upload image > Upload your newly designed background image.
STEP 10
Once you have uploaded your image click on alignment next to your file. Select centered alignment and tile image - this will center and repeat your background.
VIOLA!! You did it :] You may or may not have to play around with the image or the widths of your blog to ensure that it is perfect, but at least now you have the tools and are well on your way. Have fun!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teaching this stuff via the web is a lot more difficult and time consuming than I had anticipated. I never really think out the steps, I just do them. If this tutorial is difficult to follow, or if you have questions please let me know! Also, please let me know of any other blog design questions you would like answered and I will do my very best to answer them for you in an upcoming post :]
Have a great day everyone!!

June Spotlight - Tastes Like Love
Hi All! Happy Monday to ya. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I am very excited to start out a new feature on my blog - a monthly sponsor spotlight. Each month I will select one special sponsor of mine to guest post and share more about themselves (why haven't I done this sooner?). I need to start sharing the love. To start off the series I chose the very sweet and talented Lauren from Tastes Like Love. Take it away Lauren...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Shy Scout readers, my name is Lauren & you can usually find me over at Tastes Like Love where I blog about my daily adventures with friends & my darling husband Luke, fancy folk I come across, my custom portraits and illustrations of cute girls, and delightful things. I'm really excited to be guest posting on Shy Scout today as Allison's blog is such a delight!
I started my blog Tastes Like Love early last year as an experimental motivational tool. I wanted to get myself motivated to draw again after having a couple of months break from design post graduation. I studied Graphic Design & Communications for three years and gave myself a much needed creative hiatus afterwards. During that time Luke & I moved from Newcastle to the Central Coast, Luke started a new job and I started to reluctantly look for a graphic design job. I didn't feel like I would enjoy working in a graphic design studio with pressure and deadlines, because ultimately I studied design to delve into my creative side and learn the tools I needed to be creative for myself. It was at this time that I started my blog and got drawing. I had a super casual blog the year before but it had been abandoned for some time so I started afresh.
Although everybody in my design class had a different style, I found my teacher was incredibly discouraging with my style and the direction I wanted my illustrations to go in. And I think this was a huge factor in my lack of confidence with my illustrations. After I started to draw more and share them with my family and friends and received both positive and construction criticism, I found myself enjoying drawing again. I started to share my drawings on my blog when I began my photo booth illustrations, which by far are my favourite designs so far!
The decision to offer my illustration services for custom portraits came when I drew a portrait of my friend Holly. We were being extremely productive at our old work place and drawing cartoons of everyone in the office, and she asked me to draw her a serious one. When I gave it to her she suggested I do them through my blog, and in January this year I added my Custom page. Some of my favourite illustrations I've done have been a couple of the custom portraits commissioned throughout the year. The majority of the custom drawings I've done this year have been bought as presents for friends and family as they make a perfect personalised gift.
If you'd like a customised illustration for your blog or as a gift, check out my Custom page for more info. Thanks for having me Allison!

Wardrobe Wednesday - Just Peachy
Hi all! I apologize, I am still pretty behind in catching up on all of your lovely blogs. The past few days have been pretty stressful around here and my internet has been pretty shaky on top of it all. Anywho... it is new and beautiful day so I plan on enjoying the best I can. I am headed down to school today to visit Brian - I can't wait :] Maybe not seeing him for nearly a month is what is really getting me down.
Enough whining and mushy gushy stuff. Let's talk about this outfit, shall we? I just purchased this beautiful dress (and one more!) from the Ruche gift card I won on Aizzing's blog - Icing & Write. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is one of my favorite dresses by far. Ruche has so many beautiful pieces and - may I add - at affordable prices! I was so excited to have the funds to make my first purchase :]
I love the bow and bright colors. This dress is perfect for spring and summer! I am not a major fan of yellow on me but I don't mind it at all paired with the coral in this dress :] I also think it will look cute with white tights or a cardigan to add some warmth on cold nights.
Outfit Details: Dress - Pretty in Peach Pleated Dress, Ruche | Bag - thrifted | Pendant - thrifted | Sandals - Unisa, DSW | Sweetpea - thrifted, tehehe, my favorite little accessory and partner in crime.
Alrighty. I am off to wear this dress out on a hot date with my man, tehehe. He is only a two hour drive a way... *wahh wahh. Thank goodness for Jim Croce's greatest hit cd to rock out to on the way down. Have a beautiful day you all!

Fallin'
My dad and I drove up to Niagara Falls on the way back home from Rhode Island. I had been to the falls once before a few years back, they are just as beautiful as they were then. You can spot the mist from miles away. Once you reach the falls the water is the most beautiful greenish-blue. It is by far one of the most magical places on earth :]
We walked along the falls early in the afternoon and later that night. I love looking over the railings to watch the clear glass-like water rush down the sides of the falls. I have no clue why anyone would want to go over the falls in a barrel however - yikes! I wish I had more to say about the visit but I think that the photos speak for themselves.
Hope you all are having a beautiful Tuesday!

Rhode Island in Photos
Hi all! Happy Monday. I hope your week is off to a good start. I am finally back from vacation. I had a wonderful time in Rhode Island visiting family and loved ones while making sure to stop off at all of my favorite spots. Unfortunately the first day we arrived was the only sunny day so I did not go swimming at the beach. I did manage, however, to capture some shots of beautiful Rhode Island.
Beautiful isn't it? It is the "Ocean State" after all. I really hope I end up back there for good one day. We also stopped by Niagara Falls on the way back so I will be sharing the photos with you all tomorrow to avoid photo overload.
On to other news...
Congratulations to Violet of Blythe Ponytail Parades, you won the two cute pairs earrings from Hello Wallflower!! You should be receiving an email from Carli shortly :]
Alrighty. I have a lot of blogging to catch up on. See you all back here again tomorrow.

Rhode Island Round Up
Hi all! I am just stopping by to say a quick hello and give a mini trip update via some of my instagram photos. I have been having a wonderful time in the "the ocean state". The latest Miss America winner is from here (first time ever for the state), pretty cool right? Anywho...
1. Hit the road way later than originally planned.
2. Stayed over in Pennsylvania for the night and had a yummy breakfast at the cute restaurant next door.
3. Was stuck in horrible traffic shortly after this photo, thankfully the rolling hills sure are pretty.
4. I am staying at my grandmas and she has the cutest 60's sheets.
5. A silhouette of mini me. My grandmother had them done for her children and grand children :]
6. Clamcakes!!! I also had an Awful Awful (a Rhode Island milkshake), so I can cross them off my to-do list.
7-8. Saturday has been the only warm and sunny day :-/ thankfully we took full advantage of it and visited a few beaches. It was still too chilly to go swimming...and enjoy it.
9. Climbed on top of an old abandoned water tower from the 1800's at Brenton State Park. It is located next to the Carriage House, which is one of my favorite places to explore (you can see it in the back of the photo).
10. My summer home. Ha. Just kidding. Ocean Drive in Newport has an entire road of summer mansions from the Rockerfellers to the Vanderbilts. If only...
11. Later that evening we went to a Vegetarian restaurant - The Garden Grille - for dinner and afterward headed to their Wildflour bakery for vegan cupcakes - YUM!
12. The last image is another shot of Brenton State Park in Newport from earlier in the day.
Trip overload, huh? I also visited my grandfather twice in Connecticut, which was really nice. Tomorrow is our last day and I am spending it with some more family. Thursday we are leaving bright and early and heading to Canada! At least that is the plan as of right now... We thought it would be fun to stay by Niagara Falls for the night and finish off the rest of the trip Friday.
Phew. I will catch up on all of your lovely comments and blogs as soon as I get home :]
Hope you are having a wonderful week!
** Have you entered my awesome Hello Wallflower giveaway? Don't worry, you still have time! The giveaway ends Friday night at midnight, so don't miss out. Good Luck!! **
Also:
Congratulations to Kelsi of Kelsi Does Hair, you won the $50 Giftcard from Shabby Apple!! You should be receiving your giftcard from them shortly if you have not already. I hope you buy something beautiful :]
