A question for you

What would you like to learn
about blog design?

- Having trouble getting text or images to align?
- Want to get rid of that pesky shadow around your images?
- Do you want to learn how to properly save images so they don't upload fuzzy?

I can answer all these questions and more! I am currently in the process of redesigning my blog. This one has too many - what was I thinking? - flaws that I can't get past. While working on a blog design for a friend I realized how much more I could do for ShyScout. I was in too much of a hurry to get this layout up and running originally. Anywho, rambling...

What tutorials design would you like seen on this blog? I want to compile a list of design questions you have and plan to answer them all. Whether it is questions about html, type, photoshop, etc. I am hoping to start a new tutorial feature starting next month. While I can come up with my own tutorials, I thought it may be more useful and fun to answer questions you may have.

ASK AWAY!

  1. I have a few simple things that I cant do that I'd love you to do a tutorial for.
Firstly I'd like to know how you can write a link in a post as one word so that when you click the word, the link opens into the website or blog that you want to direct readers too. It's hard to explain and I dont really know how to put that into a question.
Secondly I'd love to know how to change the background of my blog to my own pattern or image.
I dont know if these were the type of questions you were looking for so please ignore this comment if they aren't.
I feel a bit silly but Ive only had my blog since febuary so I'm still struggling with certain things on Blogger. Please let me know if you do these tutorials, I'll look out for them :) xx

  6. Seriously. Where do I start? Why do you think my blog is so basic? It's all I know. Lol When I got to Blogger I was like, "Derp" and just clicked on a design that I liked and that's it. Nothing changed since. Take that back - my sweet friend Kirsten set my tabs up at the top of the screen so people can go straight to my outfit posts and a feature I had going that I've since forgotten about. ANYWAY, now I'm rambling...
I have NO clue how to mess with HTML. I don't know anything about copying the codes and removing certain bits of the code to get something else going. I hope this makes sense. But for instance, when Kirsten set up some HTML code so that I could get those tabs linked to let's say, the outfit posts I had no idea how she got it to make all the blog posts that I tagged as "outfit post" to come up. I also went into my "Pleased to meet you" tab that she created and tried to change my wording (I think I had a typo) and after I saved my whole profile page looked weird and f'd up! I panicked, but somehow got it working again. I have no idea what I did. So HTML sites that you know of that are helpful would be cool I guess.
Also, what collage websites do you use? I used to use picnik but they're no more and now I just use my cell phone frame app and then email the collages from there. It's a pain in the ass.
Oh, and last but not least. Margins. I hate how skinny my margin is and how it leaves me with no choice but to post all my pictures kinda small. I hate telling people to click on them to see bigger. Then again, I don't wanna do too much to this basic blog design because it's not the one I want for too much longer. I guess when I commission you to do mine, we'll go from there. :)
Sorry this was a LONG comment! You should expect it from me by now. hehe

    1. I can cover some html for you ladies. I was a nerd in middle school and bought a book and taught myself. So now when I look at code I get the gist of what is going on and can tweak it or write it to my liking. I would be happy to explain what it all means and share some good sites in the process :]

I don't use collage websites. I use Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, and indesign for all of my graphics. I heard that picnik broke down...hmm...
have you tried fotoflexer or pixlr? I read they are similar but don't know much about them in comparison to picknik.

I can help with margins and photo sizes on basic templates! :]

Haha. No problemo! I am making a list of what everyone wants and them trying to figure out what order to answer it all in.

  7. Do you know much about photoshop? I'd like to learn how to use photoshop to make banners for posts and that kind of stuff. I use to just use Picnik until it closed. Anything about how to make room on your sidebar for ad spaces/buttons. I don't know, I guess there's alot of little things. I can't wait to see your tutorials though!

    1. Yep! I taught myself and then had to use it for my studies and work. I can try to set up a tutorial on that :] I will probably break up my tutorials in to code and graphics.

I can also talk about margins and what not too! Thank you for the suggestions.

  8. I'd love to know how you make the tags for you "facebook, twitter" links down the side, and also how to make really pretty headers, like were you find the designs from and what you do with them.

  9. I would love tutorials! I know that since I'm on wordpress.com, I'm a little more limited as far as customization goes, but do you know about anything I can do to jazz up my look? I'd also love to learn how to make buttons and link-ups to other social media sites.
