On dressing like an old woman...

Hi guys! Happy New Year's again :] My year is off to a good start already. I started compiling my store's items yesterday and am pretty excited for everything to go live soon. Anywho...New Year's eve was a lot of fun. It mainly consisted of dancing and singing to 90's music but I am ok with that. I didn't end up wearing anything sparkly - I actually went with my outfit from Monday. Cute, simple, and warm.

My brother and I right before the countdown ^ I need to move out already! The city is calling my name...

Alrighty, let's get back on track. It is Thursday and that calls for a Thrifted Thursday post! Due to recent events I took a bit of a hiatus from my regular thrifting routine, but I am slowly getting back in to the groove mainly to stock my store. I did manage to find a gem though just in time for Christmas. I had just gotten my Christmas bonus and needed to spend part of it on something - pronto, haha.

I had my eye on this coat for awhile but it's price tag was a tad too much for me. Like magic though it was on sale for under $40 just in time for Christmas. And let's be real - it was going to be a "blue christmas" without that coat (ahaha I am hilarious...). The collar is mink - eeep! The ONLY reason why I felt ok buying it was because the coat is at least 40 years older than me...and that means the poor creature has been gone for a very long time :-/ Okkkk. I still don't know how I feel about it, but the coat is cute and sooo warm. I feel like a fancy old lady strutting around with this coat and I am completely ok with that.

Outfit Details:M Coat & Bag - thrifted, Leggings - TJ Maxx, Shoes - DSW.

Have you found any good thrift finds lately?

  4. Happy New Year!

Gorgeous! I adore your new coat. And I always feel like vintage fur, unlike new fur, shouldn't be a problem. Discarding it would be a lot worse, right? If the animal was killed anyway, decades ago, the least we can do is make the best of it for the longest time possible.

Your shop sounds exciting! What will you sell?

Thank you. I think discarding it would be wrong too.

I plan on selling a little bit of everything, haha. Vintage clothes, housewares, accessories, etc. :]

  8. That coat is beautiful! I find vintage coats with real fur all the time and it doesn't really bother me too much. I know it sounds bad but like you said, its been so long and its still a part of history. At least the fur is being used in a beautiful, aesthetic way and not rotted in the ground or something. Idk, its a touchy subject but I think it's beautiful! Of course, I wouldnt buy new fur today at a store so I agee.

    1. Thank you! It is a touchy subject. I think it is good though that it can still be used so many years later and not in the landfill. :]

  12. I'm with the above commenters...second-hand fur seems somehow more acceptable. It's a gorgeous coat...it has a real Victorian ladylike feel to it :) Just after stumbling upon your lovely blog and I'm looking forward to following your adventures through 2013...happy New Year :)

  15. I just wanted you to know I check in on you from time to time but it had-unfortunately-been a hot minute since the last time I did so. Anywho, I just wanted to say (once again) CONGRATS on the new place!!! It's gorgeous on the outside. I hope you'll post some indoor shots when you get your room set up on IG.
Also, THIS COAT!! It literally made my mouth druh-op when I saw it! :) It's seriously the most stunning blue coat I've ever, ever seen. I will always be drop dead jealous of you in finding the most brilliant coats on your thrifting excursions. Luck like that would never find its way into my local thrift. Ugh.
Also part deux: It's so funny you bring up the Lincoln movie, Mikey and I have had it sitting on our coffee table waiting to be watched for going on something like 3 weeks now! The last three days in a row, in fact, I've said to him every night, "Let's watch Lincoln!" but then we do something else and forget about it. I've heard nothing but fantastic things about it since it was released in theaters. I think we'll FINALLY watch it tonight.
Welp, I miss you so much, my friend. I do hope our paths eventually cross. Take care! ♥

    1. Aw. Hey! Thank you for checking in. I kind of have been drifting in and out of blogging lately too.

Thank you so much! I need to take shots of the place soon. :] Thanks. I really love it. I need to wear it more but I feel like it calls only for fancy occasions. Psh. Well you are moving to Florida soon - they have killer thrift stores, but you probably won't need a coat any more...

Haha. I hope you watched the movie and liked it. It is a bit slow, but really good.

I miss you so much as well. I hope Texas is wonderful :] I hope our paths cross some day as well.
