Wardrobe Wednesday - Horsin' around

My dresses from Dorothy Perkins arrived already! I must say - I am in love with all of the dresses I bought. I can't wait to wear them out and about this summer. The only thing I wish was that they were all a smidge bit longer. I am a bit conservative when it comes to showing off my legs. It will be less of an issue once autumn arrives and I can wear thick tights...but until then slips will have to be used to add some length. How do you guys work with shorter dresses to make them feel more comfortable on you?

I love the peter pan collar, horse print, and buttons. I wish the camera would have picked up on the details better. Oh well, it happens when you use a tripod? All of my neighbors decided to hang out in their backyards yesterday so I had to keep ducking in and out the back to take photos.

Outfit Details: Dress and belt - Dorothy Perkins | Bag - China | Heels - Doll House | Bracelet - gift from Egypt (probably should have taken more shots of it - they are multi colored stone scarabs).

Eeep - I am in desperate need of a hair cut and color, and maybe a tan. ANYWHO...I set up my garden shortly after these photos were taken - not in this outfit of course! I am pretty excited for things to start sprouting. I am growing green and yellow squash, beets, green beans, peas, basil, various flowers, aaand I am still deciding what else to put in the patch. My mom is growing tomatoes, onions, garlic, and peppers. I am so excited for all the fresh veggies! Have you set up a garden? Ughhh. I also need to start the never ending process of unpacking now. Wahoo... Hopefully I can get together enough stuff to throw a garage sale shortly.

Have a beautiful day!

  8. Allison this dress is perfect on you! And I like the shorter length on you! You have such great legs..you should show them off : )

Actually I never have a problem with short things because my legs are so short...it never really looks as short as it is!

    1. Thank you! Yikes. I have always felt uncomfortable showing them off. I used to wear only pants in the summer so this is progress.

      You are very lucky!

  9. so pretty! I'm a fan of adding the slip under too but I usually end up sewing some kind of lace trim to the bottom of all my slips. it adds what I call "feminine, flirty length"

  10. I love this dress, Dorothy Perkins is perfection in website form, the peter pan collar is such a lovely touch. I'm very self conscious about my legs too and I almost always wear tights or leggings so I feel more comfortable. Speaking of self conscious, I hate the look people give you when they catch you taking a picture of yourself, I always try to do it when no one is around - I won't even let my boyfriend watch me take a picture of myself, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that feels weird about taking pictures in front of people. Nothing beats homegrown veggies, absolutely nothing, good luck with the crops.

    1. I am so glad I found the site. I will definitely be buying more things in the future. Thank you :] I always wear shorts under my dresses but would prefer to wear tights if weather permits. Haha - yes! It is so awkward. Thanks!!

  13. I love this dress! It's beautiful and looks so great on you. Hm, I'm the opposite. I prefer shorter dresses! Maybe it's because I'm really short. I always wear shorts under them to not flash people and if it's not 1000000 degrees, I'll wear nude sheer tights to give myself coverage/color on my legs. It works to make them less revealing.

And yay for a garden. I've always wanted one. Maybe one day!

    1. Thank you! Those are good tips. I wear shorts under my dresses too sometimes :] I need to invest in some nude tights though. I always go for black ones.

Gardening is a lot of fun. I started last year with tomatoes and went from there.

  15. Gah lee, I just love these photos and this outfit! The oxford heels go so well with the dress! When dresses are too short for me, I just add tights as well. I only own one slip and it's so long that I can't wear it under many of my dresses. It would just look too silly. Your dress looks pretty modest, but it might feel different for you.
Your veggie garden sounds so perfect! I'd love to have one, but our backyard is all concrete - city life.

    1. Thank you! I had never worn the oxford heels before and really liked them with this dress. I like dresses about a hands width above the knee...anything shorter and I feel so exposed.

Aw man, bummer. I had to grow m tomatoes in pots on my porch last summer because I had the same problem. I was excited to be able to grow in the ground this year :]

  17. this dress is so adorable! i love the tulle peeking out at the bottom! so cute. and those heels and bags go perfectly.

with shorter dresses, i choose flats always. i wouldn't categorize this as a 'flats only dress', but definitely not a 4" heel dress! just learn to bend down by bending your knees and not are your waist - life saver i tell ya

    1. :] Thank you. The tulle is a go to slip of mine to add length, haha.

Good tips! I don't wear heels too often but that makes a lot of sense.

  21. Loving your expression in the first shot. You are rocking this dress!!!! One of my favorites of yours. I'm the same way though…if a dress is even a teensy bit too long, I'll end up wearing black leggings or putting another petticoat like skirt underneath it to cover more of my leg. I just think super short things look icky on me.

    1. Thank you so much! I am glad I am not alone. I think it is completely mental, but it feels much more comfortable to be covered up.

  23. Super cute dress! My trick for short things is to wear those spandex biker shorts underneath; I got a pair at an American Apparel sidewalk sale once. I'm horribly unlady-like but I adore mini dresses, so it's been a life-saver!

    1. Thank you so much. That is a great idea :] I wear shorts under dresses from time to time but wearing spandex ones sounds like a better idea because they are less likely to add unwanted "poofing" (is that even a word?) to the skirt.

  27. Cute dress! I'm also weird about my legs, so if a dress is shorter then I'd like and I can't wear thick tights I just wear like lighter color tights. Pastels, greys, whites, nude w/ polka dots...that type of deal. As for the garden, good luck! The closest I've come is tomato plants.
